Street department reports completion of required municipal annual certification to secure state road funding

At the Aug. 26 meeting, Hank from the City of Sydney street department briefed the council on the municipal annual certification process required by the state of Nebraska to maintain road funding. He described the certification as mandatory and said it documents the city's 1‑ and 6‑year plans, equipment inventories, project lists and compliance with state standards.

Hank reviewed the previous paper‑intensive process and said the state streamlined it into an annual compliance format to reduce paperwork. He told the council that the certification is necessary "or you don't get your state funding." The council moved to approve the certification and the motion passed.

The presentation was informational and focused on ensuring the city remains eligible for routine state roadway funding and on improving internal recordkeeping to avoid delays in grant or funding application processing.
