The representative said the association asked district administrators to review historical calendars back to February 2017 and found no prior instances of the same language, prompting the demand. The association met with district leadership (Jen) for initial discussions and described key concerns: that adding work days to the calendar could reduce average pay for staff and that student absenteeism on days added back after snow closures could lower instructional quality when few students attend.
The representative urged board members and administrators to visit school sites on the last day of school to observe routines and better understand staff work on those days. "Increasing the days lowers their average pay," the association representative said, adding that staff were concerned about a shift in the balance of work time and pay.
Board members did not take formal action during the meeting; the discussion was recorded as public labor bargaining activity that will continue between the association and district administrators.
