The Eagle Point School District board on May 28 approved Resolution 16 to purchase two school buses: one full-size replacement and one 12-passenger (12 plus two configuration) vehicle intended mainly for the high school life-skills program.
Mister Hogan presented the recommendation and said the district owns about 30 buses and operates 26 permanent routes; the district typically replaces roughly two buses a year. "We own about 30 school buses. We have 26 permanent routes," Hogan said.
Hogan and staff said the district plans to apply for state reimbursement for the full-size replacement bus; qualifying purchases can receive 70% reimbursement over 10 years. The smaller vehicle will be used for programming and day-to-day activity at the high school; staff plan to purchase a vehicle that can both serve program needs and qualify for reimbursement where applicable.
Board members asked about disposition of surplus buses; staff said older buses are generally sold at auction and produce modest proceeds (typically $1,000–$5,000 per unit). The motion to approve the two-bus purchase passed on a roll-call vote.
Staff will return with purchase logistics and timing, and district transportation staff will coordinate auctioning retired vehicles.
