Eagle Point High School band seeks funds and parent signups for June 2026 Japan trip

Students from Eagle Point High School presented to the board Wednesday about a planned band tour to Japan scheduled for June 9—18, including workshops with Japanese university students, joint concerts and cultural visits.

Presenters described an itinerary that includes clinics, a joint concert at Bunkiyo Civic Center Hall, visits to the Meiji Shrine and the Imperial Palace East Garden, and time in Kyoto (including the Golden Pavilion and Arashiyama). The students said the tour includes private coach transport, English-speaking guides, nine nights of hotel accommodations and opportunities for cultural exchange with Japanese university bands.

Students said the group would be roughly 15 musicians and gave a preliminary per-student estimate for lodging and ground transportation of about $3,200, with airfare expected separately at about $700—200; the presenters said final airfare would be known in July. They also stressed fundraising needs and gave an October 1 passport-application deadline reminder for families (passports usually require six months' validity).

Board members asked for cost details and enrollment plans; presenters said the trip is open to band and jazz-band members and that they expect sectionals and coaching from Japanese university faculty. Students described educational goals including improving musicianship, building cultural connections and creating repeat exchange opportunities for future cohorts. No board action was required; presenters asked the board for support and kept the board updated on fundraising plans.

Several board members thanked the students and asked to be kept informed of fundraising activities.
