Homeschool families’ request to transfer to virtual 'Open Ed' program raised in public comment

The comment said families needed a transfer out to "NISA or Scapose" (transcript spelling) to participate and that "numerous families have been denied this transfer request."
The comment asked whether it is constitutional for the local district to limit education options for homeschooling students who live within district zip codes and stated: "Funds that are designated for students should be used for the students by the program they choose to utilize. What right does the local district have to restrict this freedom? Are we trying to support students or systems?"
Board staff acknowledged the emailed public comment during the meeting and then moved to the business and financial reports; no board response or definitive action on the transfer requests was recorded in the transcript.
