Eagle Point students and staff honored; student representative reports sports, theater and community service

The Eagle Point SD 9 board on March 19 recognized student and staff award winners from Eagle Point Middle School and heard a student representative report on recent activities at Eagle Point High School.
Board members announced School Board Recognition Awards for Eagle Point Middle School staff and students; winners named in the meeting included Emilia Gomez (grade 8), Trevor Duncan (grade 8), Lynn Cavan (electives teacher) and Curtis Clem (PE/health teacher).
Student representative Giselle Mactazuma, identified as the senior vice president at Eagle Point High School, told the board about winter sports and other activities. She reported swimming qualifiers to OSAA state competition, wrestling placings (including a second‑place finish at heavyweight and a third at 165 pounds), and girls’ basketball playoff participation. Mactazuma said the high school’s community service total rose to about 700 hours this month, up from roughly 300 the prior month.
She also previewed spring activities: the air band assembly scheduled for March 20, SkillsUSA design participation, recent theater productions (Dracula and Frankenstein), and forthcoming spring sports (track, softball, baseball, golf).
Board members thanked the student representative and invited questions; none were substantive enough to change the reported activities.
