Administrators said the most likely outcome based on current counts would be to keep reduced sections in place for the next year, but they emphasized the board and district would continue to monitor enrollment through the official October 1 count.

Debbie, who handles enrollment tracking, told the board she receives daily phone calls about new students and that numbers can change quickly; at the meeting she reported several new student calls had come in, underscoring the need to recheck figures closer to the state's official reporting date.

Board members asked how the district would avoid unnecessary anxiety among teachers if sections are adjusted. Staff said they plan to use an interest-based committee process to develop clear rules for reassignments, seniority considerations and internal transfers; the committee will try to avoid the bidding-and-bumping approach that proved difficult in earlier years.

Administrators also reviewed specific building-level counts: Hopewell had unfilled seats in kindergarten and first grade under the current configuration, and Pleasant View had one student displaced when enrollment was redistributed. Staff said they would present finalized open-enrollment and private-school figures after the October reporting deadline.
