The Ottumwa Community School District on Tuesday approved a set of vendor awards to support the 2025–26 construction trades student project, a house at 114 J Street that will be built with student involvement as part of the district’s career and technical education program.

The board awarded the foundation materials package to Carroll Construction Supply for $8,672.60 (materials for forming and pouring excluding concrete); underground plumbing to Maher Plumbing for $4,450; water and sewer hookup to Elite Plumbing for $13,230; whole‑house interior plumbing to Dumacher Plumbing & Heating for $14,360; the lumber package to DOWDS Lumber for $30,533.76; HVAC to Southern Iowa Heating & Air for $18,849; and electrical to Advance Electrical for $17,150. Administrators said the trades students will participate in forming and pouring the foundation and in other supervised aspects of the build as part of their curriculum.

The project items were presented as separate bid awards; administrators summarized scope for each vendor (for example indoor plumbing to include fixtures and water heater installation, HVAC to include a gas furnace and 15 SEER air conditioner and ductwork). The board moved and approved the package of awards in a single consent action.

District staff said the construction trades project allows students to work on real construction tasks under instructor and vendor supervision and that the district solicited quotes for the packages before awarding to the lowest responsive bidders. The board approved the awards and will monitor project progress through the district’s CTE program and facilities staff.
