Representatives from JBS and UFCW presented $1,000 donations to each Marshalltown Community School District building and district students from the FFA chapter reported award placings from the Central Iowa Fair and the Iowa State Fair during the board meeting.
Brad Comstock, HR director for JBS in Marshalltown, and Margarita Heredia, assistant to the president for UFCW, told the board JBS is providing $1,000 per school building to be used at each building's discretion. "We just wanna thank all of you for what you do for our children within the community," Comstock said. The donation was described as an annual contribution to help principals and staff as the school year begins.
Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte thanked JBS for the continued support, noting principals appreciated the donation.
Students from Marshalltown High School's FFA program described their participation and placings. Rory Piscatelli said he showed goats and earned champion breeding and market goat and finished as runner-up in the queen contest. "I represented our FFA chapter specifically in the goat show, and I received champion breeding and market goat," Rory said. Ryan Groby reported grand champion showmanship for dogs and other placings at the fair. Tori (last name not provided) said she earned champion for purebred sheep and reserve champion in Supreme Showmanship and that she received a top-10 showmanship buckle at the state fair for her placing.
The donations and recognitions were included in the consent agenda, which the board approved 7-0 earlier in the meeting.
