Marshalltown — The Marshalltown Community School District board on Monday approved the purchase of a residential property at 108 South 12th Street for $160,000 to support the Miller Middle School project.
Why it matters: The purchase adds property adjacent to the Miller site and continues the district’s strategy of acquiring nearby parcels to consolidate land for school uses. The district has acquired eight of nine houses on the same block, a staff speaker said.
Board action: A motion to approve the purchase was made and the board voted 6–0 in favor.
What was said: A district presenter explained the property is the third house north of Lynn Street on South 12th Street and that acquiring it would align backyards directly with the school’s outdoor circle area. "Of the 9 houses that are on South Twelfth Street, including the 1 house on Boone, that we would have purchased 8 of those 9 at this time," the presenter said.
Next steps: The district will finalize purchase documents and integrate the parcel into the Miller Middle School project site plan. No additional business terms were disclosed at the meeting.
No objections or abstentions were recorded; the motion carried unanimously.
