The Piedmont Community Charter School Board approved preliminary funding on Aug. 19 to convert a recently purchased house at 319 Oakland, adjacent to the elementary campus, into office space.
The facilities committee told the board the purchase, completed earlier in June, is part of a long‑term plan to expand the elementary campus footprint. The committee outlined renovation needs including internet, security and fire alarm connections, painting, office furniture, phone systems, printer/copier needs and moving services. Committee members said multiple vendors would perform the work and the school plans to use the same security vendor as its other campuses so systems will be tied together.
The board approved a motion to release $100,000 from reserves with a 10% contingency to begin renovation work. A board member stated the contractor identified for initial work is Kenny Champion and the committee said the goal is to staff the renovated office within about two months, although vendors timelines were not guaranteed.
Board discussion included confirmation that funds would come from the fund balance/reserve accounts, not operating funds. The motion passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Facilities representatives said additional quotes and vendor contracts would be developed as work proceeds; the initial $110,000 allocation is intended to let renovations begin and permit vendors to be engaged.
The board asked that insurance be maintained on the property while renovations proceed and that the facilities committee provide updates on scope, schedules and any budget changes.
