The Fargo Board of Education approved granting a permanent easement to the City of Fargo covering a small dashed parcel at the Longfellow Elementary site to straighten an intersection and adjust a bike path.

Tara Brandner introduced memo 22 and described the property at the intersection of 20 Ninth Avenue and Elm Street, saying the city wants a permanent easement over a very small portion of the school parcel to reconfigure the intersection and modify the bike path. Tara said, in consultation with facilities staff, there is no fiscal impact to the district from granting the easement.

Board member Robin moved to authorize execution of the permanent easement with the city and Namal seconded. Robin noted she had learned from personal experience that a permanent easement “follows the land, not the owner,” meaning the easement remains with the property if it is sold. Board member Greg asked whether the district would retain ownership rather than convey fee title; staff explained an easement grants the city the right to use and maintain the portion of land while the district retains ownership.

The motion passed on a roll call vote of 9–0. Staff said they would execute the easement document with the City of Fargo and continue coordination on the intersection and bike‑path modifications.
