The Williston Public School District 7 Board directed the governance committee to review and update a set of board policies adopted earlier in the district's history so the policies align with the district's current governance model.
Policy staff said the policies under review were adopted when the district formed and are still technically board policies, but many operational items have since been converted to administrative regulations. The governance committee recommended the board authorize a full review to determine which policies should remain board-level, which should be integrated into the governance manual and which are obsolete.
"These policies are important to have in place," a committee member said. "We need to either update them, dispose of them, which I would highly recommend against, or integrate them where appropriate." The board approved a motion to return the listed policies to the governance committee for review and to bring recommendations back to the full board.
Ending: The governance committee will review the policy packet and return with suggested edits, eliminations or integrations at a future board meeting; no immediate policy changes were adopted at this session.
