Sioux City Comm School District board meets in closed session to evaluate candidate, review confidential records

The Sioux City Comm School District Board of Directors on Feb. 6 held a brief special meeting and voted unanimously to enter a closed session to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment or performance is under consideration and to review records the board said are required to be kept confidential.

Board Chair called the special meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. and asked Shanice to call the roll. After a motion and second, the board approved the meeting agenda by voice vote.

Director Greenewald asked whether the candidate had requested a closed session and whether that request was in writing. "The candidate did request the closed session and it is in writing," Miss Hammitt, a staff member, answered. The board then moved to go into closed session "pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.5" to evaluate professional competency and to review or discuss records the board said are required or authorized by law to be kept confidential or as a condition of continued receipt of federal funds. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with seven affirmative votes: Emke, George, Greenwell, Lee, Myers, Michaelson and Miller.

After the closed session the board returned to open session on a subsequent motion and adjourned the special meeting following a final voice vote.
