The Alief ISD Board of Trustees discussed whether to nominate one or two candidates to the Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) board of directors but voted to postpone the nomination until the board’s next regular meeting on Sept. 16, 2025.
Emily Littlefield, chief financial officer, briefed the board on changes enacted by the Texas Legislature’s Senate Bill 2 that reorganized appraisal district governance and the upcoming timelines: nominations must be submitted to the chief appraiser before Oct. 14–15, 2025, depending on the form filed.
Trustees debated whether to nominate one or two candidates. Trustee Moreno initially moved to nominate one person but withdrew the motion after discussion. Trustee Truong then moved to postpone item 6.3 to the next regularly scheduled meeting; Trustee Moreno seconded. The president recorded the vote as 6 in favor, 0 against and 0 abstentions; the item was postponed to Sept. 16, 2025.
Trustees discussed potential nominees; Trustee Greg Patrick and Trustee Anne Williams were named in conversation as possible candidates, and Trustee Patrick verbally nominated President Darlene Breaux; Breaux declined to commit immediately. Littlefield advised that taxing units other than conservation and reclamation districts may nominate up to two candidates and that the presiding officer must submit the nomination resolution to the chief appraiser by the statutory deadline.
The board did not make any nominations at this meeting and directed that the item be brought back for consideration at the Sept. 16 meeting.
