The Alief Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to accept certificates of unopposed candidacy for trustee positions 4, 5, 6 and 7 and approved an order canceling the Nov. 4, 2025 election.
The action, moved by Trustee Rick Moreno and seconded by Trustee Lily Truong, passed on a show-of-hands vote reported by the president as 6 in favor, 0 against and 0 abstentions.
Emily Littlefield, chief financial officer, told the board the district had a single candidate for each seat—Darlene Breaux (Position 4), Janice Spurlock (Position 5), Isaac Perez (Position 6) and Greg Patrick (Position 7)—and that an election would therefore not be required. Littlefield said a contested election would cost the district “approximately $300,000,” and that cost would come from the general fund.
Board President Darlene Breaux called for questions; none were raised and the board moved the item from the consent calendar to a formal approval.
The board’s action canceled the district’s planned November election for those seats and accepted the unopposed candidates as the qualifiers for the respective positions. No additional conditions or follow-up tasks were recorded in the minutes.
No public comments were made on the item during the meeting.
The board processed the cancellation under normal agenda procedure; the meeting record notes that the board posted meeting recordings “in accordance with Section 551.128 of the Texas Open Meetings Act.”
