The Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education voted unanimously on May 29 to combine its finance and facilities committee meetings for the 2025–26 school year.
Board members said the committees frequently considered the same projects from different angles and that a joint committee would allow project prioritization and funding discussions to happen in one forum. Member Jeff Waters moved the motion and Member Satchel seconded; the roll call was 7-0 in favor.
Josh Stevenson, the district chief financial officer, described the operational rationale: "The advantages of combining them is there's significant back and forth between determining project prioritization and funding. So it's either things are going back and forth between the committees, or they're happening under one roof," he said.
The board named Member Waters as chair of the combined finance-and-facilities committee, with Members Mitha and Fisher assigned as members. The motion did not require policy changes; the board said it would revisit whether to codify the joint committee if needed.
Administrators and committee chairs said they will schedule joint meetings and develop a joint charter. The merger is meant to streamline discussions about capital projects, grant opportunities and construction timing in advance of summer work seasons.
The motion was recorded as: motion by Member Waters, second by Member Satchel, roll call 7-0. The joint committee will meet as needed and report back to the full board.
