Lake Travis ISD trustees introduced several new district leaders during the recognition portion of the July meeting.

Dr. Bethany Medford was introduced as the district’s new assistant superintendent of school leadership. Administrators said Medford previously served as deputy superintendent in Conroe ISD and has experience as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. “In 6 days I've had such a warm welcome,” Medford said and described visits to multiple campuses during her first week.

Chief Brad Merritt was introduced as the district’s new chief of police and director of safety; he will start July 28 and previously served in Pilot Point ISD and the Frisco Police Department. District leadership noted his experience leading school resource officers and emergency management training through the Texas School Safety Center. “School policing is different than policing on the street,” Merritt said, adding he has met district officers and looks forward to leading the team.

Amanda Preen was introduced as the new principal of Lake Travis Elementary. Administrators described a committee-based selection process that included teacher and parent representatives. Preen said she has more than 20 years of experience and called the school “a very special place.”

The district welcomed the leaders and asked them to say a few words; no board action was required.
