Weld County commissioners on Aug. 20 approved the purchase of a 2026 heavy-haul tractor for Weld County Fleet Services at a total cost of $214,826. The board approved the purchase under a cooperative-contract exemption in the county procurement code.
Toby Taylor with purchasing told the board, "Weld County Fleet Services is desiring to purchase 1 new 20 26 heavy tall heavy haul tractor to meet budgeted vehicle needs for the Public Works Trucking Division. Weld County Code Section 5,480 titled Expenditures Not Requiring a Procurement Process. Item 26 of this section identifies items purchased from current state, federal, GSA or other cooperative contracts are exempt and may be purchased directly from those sources." He recommended buying the vehicle from TransWest Truck Trailer RV using the Sourcewell contract referenced in the staff report.
Commissioner Kevin Ross moved to approve the purchase; Commissioner Scott James seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote with all commissioners voting in favor.
The purchase was presented as budgeted for the Public Works Trucking Division; the staff presentation identified the contract authority under Weld County Code Section 5.480, item 26, which allows purchases directly from state, federal, GSA or other cooperative contracts. The board did not provide additional detail on the specific budget line or department fund during the meeting.
The board took no additional direction; the purchase authorization stood as approved, and county staff were authorized to complete the procurement using the identified cooperative contract.
