In a virtual status update the court was told that the disposition of State of Texas v. Jason Leverett may depend on the result of a medical review panel (MRP) hearing scheduled for Aug. 26 before Judge Becerra.

Defense counsel reported that discovery is complete and that the MRP hearing outcome could dictate what happens with the case in the current court. “We have all the discovery. We have his MRP hearing scheduled August 26 in front of judge Becerra, and I think probably the outcome will dictate what happens with the case in your court, my guess,” counsel told the judge. Counsel Jasmine (surname not specified on the record) confirmed the date and time.

The judge noted the court will expect an update at the next status appearance. No plea, plea offer, or dispositive court action was recorded at that hearing; the case remains dependent on the MRP ruling.
