Village reports limited residential flood damage and joins county damage assessments for possible FEMA aid

Village staff reported that seven residential structures in Heartland were entered into the county damage-assessment system after recent flooding and that the village coordinated with county emergency-management officials to activate resources. Staff said Waukesha County Emergency Management activated the county 211 line and that the village promoted the line through social media. The village also finalized a memorandum of understanding to use an app-based damage-assessment system so fire-department personnel could collect and submit assessments rapidly. Public-safety staff said the county is compiling assessments across municipalities; staff noted neighboring communities to the east—Menomonee Falls, Elm Grove, Brookfield and New Berlin—suffered more extensive damage. The state governor had requested that FEMA review assessments, and county officials will determine whether federal individual or public assistance is warranted. Village staff said this is pending FEMA’s review.
