The Sandusky City Commission on Aug. 25 passed a resolution declaring the necessity to proceed with the MacArthur Park roadway and utility improvements project and directed the city manager to advertise for bids.
City staff told commissioners the resolution completes the McCarthy Park East and West phases and moves the work into adjacent streets including Northeast and South Forest and Parkview drives; staff said the contractor learned from earlier phases and the city prefers winter scheduling for much of the work. Staff also acknowledged Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s support in securing an EPA grant and noted $435,000 from that grant will be used for the project.
The resolution was adopted under Section 14 of the city charter. Staff explained the project sequencing intends to minimize disruption by following the scheduling approach used in earlier phases.
Why it matters: the project continues a multi-phase neighborhood roadway and utility upgrade, funded in part by a federal grant, and will require bid solicitation and staging to limit resident impacts during construction seasons.
What’s next: the city manager was directed to advertise and receive bids; staff said the work will follow the same timeline and contractor coordination approach used in earlier park-area projects.
