The Sandusky City Commission on Aug. 25 ratified a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Sandusky and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1519 for Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027.
Labor attorney or staff representative Mister Orzech summarized the agreement for the commission: “The percentage of wage increases for that bargaining unit is 3, 3 and 3,” he said. The contract also restructures step progression by eliminating step B so affected employees advance to steps C, D, E, etc., and reduces the years required to reach the top step (step G) from approximately 10 years to six years to align with police and fire contracts.
Staff also said certification pay amounts were increased (the example given: an item listed at $300 was raised to $600 in the contract language) to bring the city closer to regional comparators for water and sewer plant staff. Longevity payments were adjusted upward in alignment with other contracts; the transcript records an increase described in meeting remarks as approximately $20 per step.
The commission approved the ordinance to ratify the collective bargaining agreement; staff thanked HR and negotiating team members in the meeting record.
