At a Service Committee meeting on Aug. 4, 2025, committee members voted to advance a resolution to participate with the Ohio Department of Transportation on roadway improvements to State Route 13 (Mount Vernon Road) from West Channel Street to the city's north corporation limit and to declare the measure an emergency.
A city presenter described the item as a standard final resolution received from ODOT and said the city's local share for the project is $495,792.95. The presenter said ODOT requests an emergency clause because the department's bidding schedule requires legislation to be in place by Aug. 27.
Committee members were told the project is expected to be bid this fall with construction next spring. The committee approved the resolution unanimously and forwarded it to the full council for final action.
The presenter clarified that the Mount Vernon Road project is north of the city's sewer separation work and that the emergency declaration reflects ODOT's external schedule rather than a local operational emergency.
