Several community organizations provided updates during public comment and presentations at the Aug. 26 meeting.
John Langley of the American Legion told the council the Legion raised a little over $13,000 at a summer golf tournament and donated $4,000 to the Fountain Valley Senior Center. Langley outlined upcoming programs: a Labor Day parade participation, a Sept. 1–Oct. 31 coat drive requesting new children’s coats (and collecting gently used items for people experiencing homelessness), an Oktoberfest event and a Veterans Day service to be held on Veterans Day rather than the parade day to better align timing.
Dan Blankenship, president of the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce (since Aug. 2024), summarized chamber operations and events. He said the chamber has nine board members and an office administrator located in the City Hall annex, debuted a new website (fountainvalleychamber.com) and identifies platinum-level partners including Diversus Health, Underline, Black Hills and the City of Fountain. He promoted the upcoming Fall Festival (Labor Day) with a 7–9 a.m. junior ROTC breakfast at Aragon Elementary, a 10 a.m. parade from Hanover and Maine to Metcalfe, and a 10 a.m.–2 p.m. festival at Metcalfe Park with children’s activities, food trucks and a beer garden; he noted special parking arrangements for those with disabilities.
Council and staff also announced city family events (a kids equipment event and a trunk-or-treat planned for Oct. 10) and police traffic notices and route closures for the Labor Day parade. No formal council action was required; the updates were informational.
