The Newark City Council adopted Resolution 25-50 on an emergency basis to authorize appropriation steps for a small tract of real estate needed to complete a bridge-replacement project on Riverside Drive over Long Pond Run.
Councilman Raff said the parcel is a "very small piece of land" obstructing completion of the bridge project, which provides access to the Owens Corning manufacturing plant within the city. He told the council the owner is deceased and that the action is a formality to allow the work to proceed. "The reason we're doing this is it's a very small piece of land that is being, obstructed to the completion of the bridge project. We understand that the owner is deceased, and it's a formality so that we can get the project going as well as the bridge to it," Raff said.
The resolution directs the mayor to give notice to the landowner's interest holders as required by law and was adopted by roll call, 9-0.
No amendments or alternate approaches were recorded at the meeting. The council described the measure as necessary to proceed with the bridge replacement as an emergency action.
