The Newark City Council voted to adopt Resolution 25-49, an appropriation for current municipal expenses, and to adopt Resolution 25-53, authorizing cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation for roadway improvements on State Route 13 and declaring an emergency to allow expedited work.

During roll call on Resolution 25-49, the council recorded affirmative votes and the chair announced the resolution passed. The motion to adopt 25-49 was made by Mr. Marmey and seconded by Mr. Cost. The council announced the result as “25‑49 passes” with ten affirmative votes recorded.

Resolution 25-53, which the agenda described as authorizing cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation for work on Mount Vernon Road from West Channel Street to the north corporation limit, was moved by Mr. Raff and seconded by Ms. Blythe. During discussion the mover explained the reason for the emergency declaration and the council then called the roll; the presiding officer announced the resolution passed with affirmative votes recorded.

Several other resolutions were held to the council’s next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2: Resolution 25‑51 (revitalization district designation pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 4301.81), Resolution 25‑52 (authority to accept bids and enter contingent contracts for the 16 North sewer separation phase 1 project), and Resolution 25‑55 (an appropriation resolution). The council indicated those items will be considered at the Sept. 2 meeting.

No ordinances on first or second reading were considered at this meeting, and no appointments were made.
