The Service Committee on Sept. 2 referred several zoning-change ordinances to the planning commission for public hearings and recommendations, and it approved an amendment changing the address for a Cherry Valley Road parcel.
Committee members authorized referrals for ordinance 25-28 (rezoning parcel with tax ID 054-242388-00-000 from single-family residential to multifamily residential), ordinance 25-29 (rezoning property at 2249 Cherry Valley Road from church/school/institution zoning to general business), ordinance 25-30 (rezoning 60 Prospect Street to High Intensity Business) and ordinance 25-31 (rezoning 274 North Cedar Street to multifamily residence). Members consistently asked that the planning commission schedule public hearings and return recommendations to council.
Council member motioning on ordinance 25-29 noted that the property spans both sides of Cherry Valley Road and that the church is on one side while the adjacent field (where a billboard and shelter sit) would be assigned a separate address; the council moved to amend the ordinance to change the field property's address from 2249 Cherry Valley Road to 2205 Cherry Valley Road. That amendment was moved by Chute (recorded as "Shoe" in the transcript) and seconded by Neely; the committee approved the amendment 5-0.
A public commenter, Michelle Roland Smith of 237 Violet Court, asked about future plans for the location during the zoning discussion. Committee members replied that the items would go to planning commission public hearings before final council action.
All referred zoning items were forwarded to the planning commission by unanimous committee votes and are scheduled for further public review and a planning recommendation before the council considers final passage.
