Service Committee authorizes appropriation complaint to replace deficient Riverside Drive bridge

The Service Committee on Sept. 2 approved an ordinance authorizing the appropriation of a small parcel of real estate to replace a deficient bridge on Riverside Drive over Long Pine Run and directed the director of law to proceed with a complaint for appropriation in the county court of common pleas. Committee members said staff successfully reached the property owner and that the parcel required is small; the original owner is deceased and the city has been in contact with family members. The ordinance includes an emergency clause to expedite replacement of the bridge, which provides access to a local manufacturing facility. The committee approved the ordinance by voice vote, 5-0. The law director was authorized to file the appropriation action; staff said replacement is needed to prevent bridge collapse and maintain access. No final acquisition price was stated in the meeting; staff said funds are available for the project.
