The policy committee reviewed Policy 123 (Interscholastic Athletics) on Sept. 10 and asked staff to align the draft with current practice and external bylaws. Members asked that checkboxes in the draft be marked to reflect existing district expectations and requested input from the athletics director.
Committee members noted the draft already contained many of the district’s current provisions and recommended marking items related to program approval, facility safety and student eligibility. "I would really like, if it's not too much trouble, our athletics director, David, if he would like any additional words added to that checkbox because things have changed," a board member said, inviting the athletics director to review the policy language.
The committee also discussed the practicality of providing constantly updated schedules to the board; staff said schedules change frequently and are best posted on the district athletics webpage. Members requested staff check references to PIAA bylaws and mark the related checkbox for the board packet.
The draft policy was forwarded with directions to confirm PIAA bylaw citations and ensure the draft reflects current district practice for student participation requirements and facility safety.
