Mayor Jeff Hall read a proclamation at the Newark City Council meeting recognizing Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, as Lincoln County River Roundup Day and encouraging residents to take part in river and waterway cleanups across the county.
As read at the meeting, the proclamation noted the roundup’s long history and cited last year’s volunteer results: the reading listed 124 tires removed, 1,420 pounds of scrap metal recovered, and “12 piles of trash” pulled from waterways and riverbanks. The mayor said the Roundup is celebrating its 30th year and that events will include cleanups at Everett Park, Ohio Street, Riverview Preserve and other sites; the mayor encouraged residents to register online but said walk‑ins are usually accommodated.
The mayor also said the community will hold a celebration on World Rivers Day, Sept. 29, at Velvet Ice Cream’s North Fork site to highlight river restoration work and wetlands projects. The proclamation directed citizens to volunteer and emphasized collaboration among families, community organizations and public officials.
Council members noted event start times for registration (8:30 a.m.) and cleanup (9 a.m.) at most sites and said most cleanups conclude around noon. The mayor and staff encouraged volunteers to show up even if online registration sites appear full; the meeting record said walk‑ins (about 10–15) can still be accommodated at some sites.
No formal council action beyond the proclamation was recorded in the transcript.
