Recreation staff notified the Development Review Committee of two upcoming special events that will use city park facilities and adjacent parking areas.
The notices are important for coordinating departmental reviews and clarifying traffic and resource needs.
Lexi from the Recreation Department presented the first event: Whole Life Church plans a 6K around the walking trail near Northwest and Barbecue Row using the standard 5K route on sidewalks; the church expects about 100 participants and plans to use the large pavilion and existing picnic tables. Lexi said the event will use amplified sound for music and announcements, and parking will be located at Gates 2 and 3 in the park parking area.
The second notice was for a city-hosted event, Horse Powered for Heroes, presented as organized by the Popca Police Department and scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be a car show to benefit veterans at Kaitlyn Nelson Park, with an expected attendance of roughly 250 people, food trucks and 10-by-10 vendor tents. Staff indicated East Orange Street may be affected by traffic and setup, though the organizers are not requesting the street be closed; parking will be located at Edwards Field.
Department reviewers (police, public works, fire, building) had no objections during the DRC notifications; recreation will coordinate any additional permitting or park-use agreements required before the events.
