The McCracken County Fiscal Court on Sept. 8 designated Steve Irvin as the county's ABC administrator effective Aug. 31, 2025, and approved compensation set at $120,000 annually. The court's motion to designate Irvin carried on a voice vote.

Why it matters: The designation fills the administrative role left after the death of longtime deputy administrator Steve Doolittle and assigns daily oversight responsibilities to a staff member the court said already has led major county capital projects.

Court members praised Irvin's experience managing the county's sports-park construction, parks improvements and capital projects. Judge Lamer said hiring internally avoided a lengthy national search and called Irvin the person "we're confident there's nobody that can do this job any better."

Irvin did not make extended remarks on the record during the formal motion; the court's action authorized the judge executive to sign appointment documents and carry out the designation. The court did not record a roll-call vote; the motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.

The court also included a brief ceremonial oath and public acknowledgment of Irvin's previous work with county parks and the sports tourism commission during the meeting.
