Board opens and closes public hearings on three school capital projects; bids to be accepted per published notices

The Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors opened and closed three public hearings Aug. 26 on proposed capital projects and noted published bid timelines for each.

Public hearings are required steps before the district solicits construction bids; the notices were published in the Iowa City Press‑Citizen and on the district website, and the board stated the district will receive contractor bids according to the published schedules.

Vice President Abraham read the notice for the City High theater lighting project and said the district will receive bids at the Facilities Management Conference Center, 1137 South Riverside Drive, Iowa City; the board also opened and closed hearings for the Liberty High soccer‑field lighting project and the West High west‑end regrade project. The district stated that notices for all three hearings were published on Aug. 13 in the Iowa City Press‑Citizen and on the district website. The board invited questions from members and the public but recorded no public comment at the hearings and closed each hearing.

The board did not take further action on the projects that evening beyond closing the hearings and confirming the public‑notice and bid schedule process.
