Northampton Borough Council approved training and grant action for the police department at its September meeting.
Chief Kadingo requested and council approved sending Officers Dan Howard and John Shoemaker to an Axon TASER instructor course hosted by Lehigh Township Police Department in September 2025. Council members clarified that the two officers would be trained to instruct other officers locally so fewer officers would need offsite travel for the same training.
"So chief Kadingo, this is then these 2 gentlemen instruct the rest of the officers so that they don't need to go out," Councilmember Stone said during the meeting.
Earlier in the agenda, the council approved a resolution allowing Officer Bridal to apply for an LSA grant; Miss Ahmed moved the motion and Mister Donahue seconded. The motion carried and the council recorded the resolution number 11‑25 elsewhere on the agenda; the meeting materials list the grant application request and the motion to allow Officer Bridal to apply.
The training cost for the TASER instructor course was presented in the packet as $1,790 total for the officers. The meeting record does not include the LSA grant amount or further grant details.
Less critical details: the council approved the training and the grant application by voice vote; Chief Kadingo recommended rejecting one handicap‑parking petition elsewhere on the agenda, but that is unrelated to the training and grant approvals.
