Mason County public-works staff on Aug. 19 invited residents to apply for multiple advisory-board openings, including five vacancies on the Transportation Improvement Program Citizens Advisory Panel (TIPCAP) and several slots on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC).
A county presentation described TIPCAP's role in reviewing the six-year Transportation Improvement Plan, the annual construction program and other transportation plans while gathering community input. TIPCAP members serve two-year terms; meetings are typically monthly for about two hours, with occasional outreach events. Staff said there are five current openings distributed across the county's three commissioner districts and encouraged interested residents to apply at the county website or contact Public Works.
County staff also solicited volunteers for the Solid Waste Advisory Committee, which advises on solid and special-waste management policies including disposal, recycling, hazardous-waste events, composting and waste reduction. SWAC is composed of at least nine members appointed by the board; members serve three-year terms and meet monthly. Current vacancies include a District 1 representative, a District 2 representative and a public-group representative.
Staff said applications are accepted until positions are filled and noted that meetings are open to the public and often available by Zoom. Residents seeking more information were directed to the county's advisory-board pages.
