Members of the Marysville FFA chapter presented to the board to report their recent activities and national recognition. Natalie Williams, chapter vice president, and Madison Wirks, chapter reporter, described chapter programming including floral-arrangement and shop projects, livestock judging learning events, leadership conferences and community service like Wreaths Across America.
The students said the chapter achieved a Top 10 national ranking in the "strengthening agriculture" category and that the chapter is the only Ohio chapter on that list. "Our number 1 goal was to get top 10 in the nation. And we did succeed in that, and we are top 10 in the nation, in the category strengthening agriculture," Natalie Williams said. The officers said final national placement will be announced in October.
They also described officer selection, summer leadership activities (including a Washington Leadership Conference), local fair participation, and upcoming events such as chapter leadership camp, Food for America programming with Creek View fifth graders, and a statewide "Cowboy Proms" fundraiser. At state convention the chapter was gold rated, five members received state FFA degrees, three officers were gold-rated, and the chapter earned a charitable giving award. They also recognized Mr. Chaffin, who received an honorary state FFA degree.
The board thanked the students and congratulated the chapter on national recognition; no board action was required. The presentation served as recognition of student achievement and community engagement.
What happens next: Students will attend national convention in Indianapolis in October where the final national ranking will be announced.
