Superintendent Dr. Howard told the Marysville Board of Education that district enrollment for the new school year is 5,700 students — an increase of 139 students from the same point last year — and that the district has 607 new students in the enrollment process. He said the Mini Monarch Academy preschool program ("MMA") now serves 206 preschool students, up from 79 a year earlier at Naven Elementary.
On staffing, Dr. Howard said the district posted 140 positions before the school year and that eight remained open at the time of the meeting. He listed the open roles as a custodian, three school psychologists, one part-time physical therapist, one speech-language pathologist and two aide positions. He said HR director Scott Fillebaum (reported in the meeting with variant spellings) will provide a detailed organizational/hiring update at next month’s meeting.
The superintendent described the unfilled positions as an ongoing priority for HR and said the district is actively recruiting. Board members noted the district’s expansion of preschool and the increased enrollment figures, and thanked staff for the convocation and start-of-year work that preceded the numbers presented.
No formal board action was taken on personnel during the meeting; the superintendent asked the board to approve the personnel and volunteer lists included in the superintendent action items, which the board approved as a package later in the meeting. The superintendent reiterated that the district will continue to monitor hiring and fill vacancies as soon as possible.
What happens next: HR will present a fuller organizational and hiring-status report at the next board meeting, per the superintendent.
