Ms. Battle, a district student services staff member, told trustees on Sept. 4 that Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD had 21,116 students at the first day of school and reported a current enrollment of 22,891 after early-September additions. She said the district added 1,775 students since the start of school and that historical trends generally increase through September. The district is tracking transitions (pre-K to K, fifth to sixth grade) and said 86% of students impacted by consolidation returned to CFB ISD. Ms. Battle said the district established a task force and after-action reviews to improve enrollment processes and better understand why some families choose other districts. Attendance was highlighted as a key focus: the district set a 94.5% attendance goal for the year and emphasized the importance of students being in class by 10 a.m. "For every point half point increase, the district is able to bring in additional close to half a million dollars," Ms. Battle said, describing the budgetary impact of higher attendance. The board also heard that the district reintroduced services including a back-to-school hotline, after-hours enrollment, vaccinations by the health services department, and a FastPass program to speed school access. In a separate presentation, Ms. Naros, counseling department lead, said the counseling department is fully staffed and providing layered supports: bilingual counselors, crisis counselors, a licensed chemical dependency counselor, Communities in Schools site coordinators, and the Counseling Connection Center (CCC) offering free confidential counseling outside school hours. She said counselors lead classroom lessons on resilience, operate small-group and individual counseling, and maintain lists of students affected by transitions so campuses can provide targeted follow-up. Trustees thanked staff for new family communications, outreach and planned educator-wellness pilots with community partners. No formal board action was taken; staff were directed to continue enrollment outreach and to report back on task-force findings and attendance progress.
