Planning staff: Crypto House short-term rental application denied by Planning Commission until code violations are corrected

An application by Crypto House LLC to operate a short-term rental at 1069 Rugby Street was recommended for denial by the Planning Commission, planning staff said. Staff found the property owner had installed accessory structures with kitchen and bathroom facilities without permits and other code violations.
Why it matters: Short-term rental regulations are sensitive in residential neighborhoods, and staff said there are few vacation rentals in the immediate area. Neighbors testified in opposition to the proposal at the Planning Commission public hearing, and staff issued violation notices. The Planning Commission recommended denial by a 7–0 vote and staff said the item will not be scheduled for council consideration until the owner corrects the violations.
