Patty Demchowski, speaking to the council, said construction of the boardwalk at the Veterans Honor Green is approximately 75% complete and is expected to finish by August. Demchowski said the third order of pavers began installation the day of the meeting and noted that Parks and Recreation crew members were trained to install pavers so the town can manage future installations.
Demchowski reviewed upcoming events and displays: a Purple Heart Day display, a Nine-Eleven commemoration the week of Sept. 7 with a ceremony on Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. at the flagpole in Oak Ridge Town Park, a tentative Heritage Day on Sept. 27, Veterans Day on Nov. 11, and a December lights event. Parks staff are coordinating with the fire department and local vendors for events.
Adrian Econod of Parks and Recreation said the Heritage Farm Park survey closed and that McGill would present concept designs at the Parks & Rec meeting on Aug. 21. He noted tentative soft openings, a tentative Sept. 28 open house and first Music on the Lawn event, and ongoing construction timing that affects scheduling. The Parks & Rec Board did not meet in July because there were no new agenda items.
The council and committee updates also included a notice that movies in the park and final summer music events are scheduled in the coming weeks, and that volunteers and nonprofits can request free booth space for Ridgefest and Heritage Day.
No council action was required for the updates; staff reported progress and event scheduling and requested continued volunteer support and public attendance.
