Officer Carmen Fierro introduced cadet advisors and presented graduates of the Imperial Police Department Summer Police Cadet Academy, a six‑day program she described as “more than just a summer activity” and “a life‑shaping experience designed to teach responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and community service.”
Cadets Ramirez, Salgado and Bustamante spoke about the program’s physical and mental challenges, teamwork, and hands‑on training. Cadet Bustamante described exposure to chemical training agents: “We experienced OC and CS gas… it wasn’t too fun. It makes your eyes start to water, everything basically just burns.” Cadet speakers also described phase‑based progression, with phase 3 to include leadership roles and active‑shooter response exercises.
Council members recognized the cadets and thanked staff. The council and staff encouraged continued participation and discussed outreach and community presentations at upcoming events.
