Michigan City — The Michigan City Finance Committee announced its schedule on Sept. 2 for the 2026 city budget process, beginning with the mayor’s budget presentation and continuing through possible third reading in October.
Committee President Tracy Tillman said the schedule calls for the mayor’s budget presentation on Sept. 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the EOC Room. The first reading with virtual handouts is set for Sept. 16, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the ELC Room.
The committee will hold a public workshop with departments and the finance committee on Sept. 24, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the ELC Room; a tentative additional session is scheduled for Sept. 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. if more time is needed. A mayoral budget workshop follow-up is scheduled for Sept. 30, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The second reading and public hearing are set for Oct. 7, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., with a third reading, if necessary, on Oct. 21, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.; all will be in the ELC Room.
Tillman invited the public to attend the sessions. The committee did not take formal action on the budget schedule during the meeting; the announcement set dates and locations for upcoming budget hearings and workshops.
The Finance Committee will publish virtual handouts for the public in conjunction with the first reading on Sept. 16, according to Tillman. Specific agenda details, proposed expenditures and any ordinance numbers to be considered will be released with the committee materials before each hearing.
