Representatives of the Mason Schools Foundation reported to the board Monday that the foundation supplied nearly 1,000 students with backpacks and school supplies over the summer, an amount the presenter said represents almost 10% of district enrollment.
Tracy Carson, speaking for the foundation, said volunteers and community donors made the distribution possible and that approximately half of the students came to pick up supplies at a central office event. Carson credited community volunteers and foundation leaders, including Jessica Orr, with coordinating the effort and noted that the foundation is also deep in planning for its annual gala, set for Oct. 25 at the Dream Center.
Board members praised the effort and highlighted the community reach of the foundation’s work. Superintendent Doctor Cooper and board members said the foundation’s activities complement district services and help families prepare for the school year.
Why it matters: The distribution addresses basic needs for a substantial share of students and underscores community partnerships that offset family costs at the start of school.
For now: The foundation will continue engagement and fundraising activities, including the October gala.
