Following a closed executive session under Texas Government Code Section 551.074, the council returned to open session and approved an amendment to the mayor’s employment agreement.
Why it matters: Employment agreements for elected officials are formal actions that set terms for compensation, duties or other contract provisions; the council’s public vote finalizes any amendment discussed in closed session under the statute that allows personnel deliberations.
The council recessed into executive session to deliberate “the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee” regarding the city manager. After the closed session concluded at about 8:27 p.m., a council member moved to approve an amendment to the mayor’s employment agreement and to authorize the mayor to sign and execute the city manager’s employment agreement amendment.
A motion to approve the amendment was moved, seconded and carried on a 6-0 vote. The council then adjourned.
