Santaquin — City staff told the Santaquin City Council on Sept. 2 that the Utah Department of Transportation will perform repairs on the northbound I-15 bridge at 2300 North (Canyon Road) and that the project is expected to create lane closures on nonpeak hours from September through November.
Norm, a city staff member, said UDOT discovered the bridge had been struck but remains structurally sound and that repairs will be scheduled over the fall. "There will be lane closures on that on nonpeak times that will likely affect some traffic in Santaquin whenever they close that," he said. Staff cautioned that northbound closures are expected and that drivers may detour onto the frontage road.
Council members were also updated on the city’s Main Street reconstruction project, which staff said is nearing completion. Work remaining includes landscaping, stamped colored concrete, driveway tie-ins and street light installation; staff said street-light poles are in place but not yet wired.
Center Street work by the post office is part of the Main Street project, officials said, and earlier negotiations to obtain an easement from the U.S. Postal Service failed, requiring a modified construction approach to complete drainage and paving in that area.
The council also received a report on early planning for a phased approach to a future I-15 interchange project. Staff and regional engineers recently discussed using remaining awarded funds to complete Phase 1 tie-in roads and traffic pattern changes that would improve local connections and reduce future construction disruption.
No council action was taken Sept. 2; staff said they will continue to coordinate with UDOT and return updates as traffic impacts and project schedules are finalized.
