Morton County commissioners on Thursday approved a $1,400 contribution from the county’s promotion-of-agriculture line item to help send members of the Morton County 4‑H dairy judging team to the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
Team members who spoke introduced themselves and described the event. “This was my first year doing dairy judging, and I was really grateful to have been on a very competitive and supportive team,” said Sophia Voigt, one of the team members who addressed the commission. Another team member, Kylie Wolf, told commissioners she is “really excited to judge more competitive cows” at nationals and to test her skills beyond the state contest.
The team presented an estimated trip budget of about $11,500 to cover registration, hotel, per diem and travel for several participants; they reported receiving $1,500 each from State 4‑H and the Morton County 4‑H council. Extension staff and commissioners discussed other county 4‑H requests and confirmed a promotion and agriculture budget line with $3,000 available. Commissioners moved to approve $1,400 to this team so funds would remain for other potential requests.
The motion passed unanimously. Staff asked the team to report back to the commission after the trip.
