The Valley View School District Board of Education voted on Aug. 18 to place the tentative 2025–26 budget on public display for the required 30-day inspection period and to approve scheduled bills submitted with the board packet.
Treasurer Mr. Renich told the board the tentative budget will be available for public inspection and that the district will continue refining the numbers before final adoption at the board’s Sept. 22 public hearing. “Between now and the adoption date, we will continue to refine the budget as needed,” he said, and offered to provide personalized budget workbooks to trustees.
The board also approved routine payments and bills presented in the packet. For June (FY25) the board approved bills payable totaling $3,296,246.37 (presented as “3,296,246 thousand and 37¢” in the packet language). For August (FY26) the packet listed scheduled bills totaling $2,000,708,847.54 for the month of August; trustees approved the item as presented on a roll-call vote.
Why this matters: The tentative budget placement is a required step under Illinois school code to allow public inspection for 30 days before a final adoption hearing. The scheduled bills approvals are part of regular financial oversight; the August-bills number in the packet is unusually large and was approved as presented by the board.
Details and next steps: Trustees approved the tentative budget to be posted for at least 30 days and set the final adoption hearing for Sept. 22. Treasurer Renich said he is available to meet individually with board members to explain line items and answer questions before final adoption.
Ending: The board’s financial approvals clear the way for the district to continue operations; the public hearing and final adoption of the 2025–26 budget are scheduled for the Sept. 22 board meeting.
