Superintendent Dr. Savage reported Aug. 25 that the district’s schools had a successful first week and provided multiple facility and program updates, including athletic-field work, building entries and a new safety program for multilingual students.
Among facility items the superintendent listed: sodding was completed at John Deere Football Field and Wilson’s sodding was scheduled for the following day; new entrance doors for the front entry were expected to arrive on the 18th and an interior ADA lift installation for the front entry is underway. Roofing projects at Logan and Jefferson were reported complete.
Work at Browning Field was described in detail: concrete work was completed, fencing around the track is in progress (track fencing complete), bathrooms and concession spaces were slated to be finished by the end of the week, and the track was scheduled to be sprayed and striped Sept. 6–18. The superintendent said regrading of the playing field and the field behind the visitor bleachers would take place over the next month, followed by hydroseeding.
Dr. Savage also noted the district’s multilingual team had developed a pedestrian-safety instructional series for newcomer K–12 students starting Aug. 25 and running through Sept. 8, covering crossing streets, boarding buses and travel to and from school.
The superintendent invited board members to district events and noted staff work on scheduling board tours of Browning Field ahead of a ribbon-cutting event tied to the district’s home football schedule. He also reminded trustees about registration for the Illinois Association of School Boards Blackhawk Division event and related board workshops at the joint annual conference this November.
Board members asked a follow-up question about commencement scheduling; Dr. Savage said the district had secured a Sunday slot at the venue and the date was published on the district calendar. The board did not vote on any of the facility items during the public session; these were informational updates and scheduling items recorded on the public agenda.
