District 207 policy committee presents first readings of 18 policies covering ethics, safety and student conduct

The policy committee of Maine Township High School District 207 presented first readings of 18 board policies at the Feb. 13 board meeting, covering topics ranging from ethics to student behavior.
George DeGruis, assistant superintendent for human resources, briefed the committee on the policy review guided by "PRESS" policy recommendations and extensive community discussion. The policies listed for first reading included: 2-105 (ethics and gifts), 2-110 (qualifications, term and duties of board officers), 2-120 (board member development), 4-60 (purchasing and contracts), 4-150 (facilities management of buildings and equipment), 6-170 (safety and security), 7-510 (equal employment opportunity and minority recruitment), 8-520 (workplace harassment prohibited), 9-590 (abuse and neglect reporting responsibilities), 5-120 (employee ethics, code of professional conduct and conflict of interest), 115-125 (personal technology and social media usage and conduct), 5-230 (maintain students' strength — as listed in packet), 7-710 (equal educational opportunities), 7-1100 (health, eye and dental examinations, immunizations and exclusions), 7-1180 (prevention of and response to bullying, intimidation and harassment), 7-190 (student behavior), 7-200 (suspension procedures), and 8-10 (connections with the community).
Committee notes indicated there was no public comment at the policy meeting. Board members later moved to approve grouped motions related to policies (motions on items 8a–e were taken and recorded by roll call). The first‑reading status means the policies will return for subsequent readings and possible adoption at future meetings, following the district’s standard policy‑review process.
DeGruis said the review process incorporated community feedback and compliance checks to align the policies with legal and district requirements. No final adoptions were recorded for these policies at the Feb. 13 meeting; at least one grouped motion to proceed with items for first reading was approved by roll call.
